ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Employee must have regular attendance/punctuality, be able to cooperate with others, and be completely honest.

  1. Providing consistent and timely implementation of discipline and control.
  2. Encouraging and actively participating in youth activities, with special attention being paid to academic support and instruction.
  3. Provides coaching, mentoring, and some teaching to youth as appropriate.
  4. Assisting youth with independent living skills within the program guidelines.
  5. Acting as a positive role model, including manner of dress, use of language, and overall interactions with the youth; modeling appropriate behavior, including not engaging in rumors or gossip about the program or participants.
  6. Facilitating a structured daily routine for the youth by adhering to program goals and guidelines, including assistance with facilitation of group educational, recreational, and vocational activities.
  7. Works with all the staff to prioritize classroom support for the students and teachers while in the school, attending to other duties as safely appropriate. Ensuring that a Youth Coach is present in the classroom when necessary.
  8. Strictly following and implementing all safety, medication, personnel, and department policies and procedures, including all applicable School District #51 policies and procedures.
  9. Act as a leader while at the Opportunity Center and in the classroom; supporting, coaching, and working with other staff as needed to ensure safe and appropriate education for the youth and compliance with Hilltop policies and procedures.
  10. Oversee the daily completion of education assignments to include monitoring homework and making up needed work.
  11. Documenting on a daily basis youth behaviors, attitudes, and program participation in an accurate, complete, and legible manner.
  12. Administering medications and documenting that medications have been administered correctly and at the appropriate times.
  13. Transporting youth to activities and/or appointments as necessary.
  14. Being familiar with and following the program guidelines regarding “Client Rights and Responsibilities.”
  15. Maintaining professional boundaries and respect for youth’s confidentiality as directed by program guidelines.
  16. Demonstrating an effective working relationship with co-workers and actively participating in conflict management and resolution.
  17. Dealing effectively and directly with the relevant person/people regarding youth related issues.
  18. Maintaining professional behavior with co-workers and outside agencies.
  19. Offering assistance to others when time allows.
  20. Attending team meetings, in-services, and all required trainings.
  21. Attends periodically the Opportunity Center School Program staff meetings to accurately and professionally represent the residential component of Youth Services.
  22. Knowing and implementing Hilltop policies and procedures and following state rules and regulations.
  23. Mentoring specific youth as required.
  24. Other duties as assigned.

From 7:00am to 3:00pm Youth Coaches scheduled in the classroom should be focusing on academic performance and school wide behavioral expectations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Two years of college education or high school diploma/general education degree (GED) and one year experience in a human services related field.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS PREFERRED:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a human services related field
Experience: Two (2) years prior Residential Treatment Center (RTC) or Residential Child Care Facility (RCCF) experience, and/or one (1) year group facilitation experience with a Bachelor’s Degree.
Special Skills: Two (2) of the following certifications: QMAP certification; Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation/ First Aide certification; CPI certification, or Informed Supervisor of Sex Offenders Certification.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, as well as Hilltop and program specific policies and procedures. Must be able to write routine documentation as required. Must be able to verbally communicate effectively with youth and co-workers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Must be able to add and subtract two digit numbers, and to multiply and divide by 10’s and 100’s. Must be able to perform these operations using units of American money, weight measurements, volume measurement, and distance. Must be able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY
Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must be able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

MENTAL ABILITY
Oral comprehension, written comprehension, and the ability to write effectively are all essential to the performance of the duties required of this position.
