Summary

Responsible for the general supervision and management of a childcare/preschool class. This person is responsible for directing all activities in the classroom as well as the Childcare Aides assisting them.

Full Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Employee must have regular attendance/punctuality, be able to cooperate with others, and be completely honest.

  1. Planning, supervising and implementing the early childhood program in accordance with the policies and philosophies of Kiddin’ Around Learning Center, Hilltop Community Resources, and state childcare licensing.
  2. Gearing the program to the needs of individual children with concern for their interests, handicaps, special talents, and individual style and pace of learning.
  3. Considering individual children in relationship to their cultural and socioeconomic background.
  4. Treating children, staff, client’s families, and visiting public with dignity and respect.
  5. Helping children become aware of their roles as integral members of the group environment of the assigned classroom.
  6. Helping, planning, and preparing lesson plans and other activities as part of a team with the classroom Aide and other staff.
  7. Organizing and prioritizing a busy work load.
  8. Willingness to stay late or go home early due to staff/child ratios as stated in the minimum state rules and regulations.
  9. Ability to work with all age groups of children attending the program.
  10. Complying with State and County Rules Regulating Child Care Centers issued by the Colorado Department of Human Services – Division of Childcare.
  11. Providing all necessary documentation as required by State and County Rules Regulating Child Care Centers issued by the Colorado Department of Human Services – Division of Childcare.
  12. Assisting in the scheduling, supervision, and execution of cleaning duties, playground duties, lunch duties, classroom duties, and nap duties.
  13. Assisting the Director and other staff in parent/school relationships.
  14. Attending all staff meetings and recommended/required training programs as appropriate.
  15. Attending extra curricular activities when scheduled.
  16. Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no staff supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required.
1. Must demonstrate an interest in and knowledge of children and concern for their proper care and well-being.
2. Must be at least 18 years of age.
3. Must meet the minimum standards as outlined in the Rules Regulating Child Care centers as issued by the Colorado State Department of Social Services.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS PREFERRED:
Education: 6 or more college credits in Early Childhood Education classes; Certificate or higher in Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, Special Education or a related field of study.
Experience: 15 hours of training in the last year; more than 2 years child care experience; more than 2 years working in quality rated classroom; Certificate of Training on Documentation and Observation.
Special Skills: Current CPR; First Aide Card; Current Universal Precautions Card; ECCRS Training.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, as well as Hilltop and program specific policies and procedures. Must be able to write routine documentation as required. Must be able to verbally communicate effectively with clients and co-workers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Must be able to add and subtract two digit numbers, and to multiply and divide by 10’s and 100’s. Must be able to perform these operations using units of American money, weight measurements, volume measurement, and distance. Must be able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY
Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Must be able to interpret instructions that are furnished in a variety of formats including written, oral, diagram, and/or schedule form.
